TNT is the third studio album by American post-rock band Tortoise, released in 1998 by Thrill Jockey. Taking influence from their remix material of the 1990s, the band recorded the album using hard disk technology in a forward-then-back approach, with members individually adding parts to tracks at different stages until the tracks were completed. No album in the bands initial run embodied that like their third, 1998s TNT. Weirdly beautiful and impossible to pin down, TNT was a fulcrum, a place where the musical values of the past instrumental proficiency, deliberate composition met the digital future. But first we should start with that past, with a rhythm section, or rather, two of them. It was recorded to hard disk via Pro Tools, a relatively new idea on the music scene when they started working on the album in late 1996 Stereolabs Dots and Loops, engineered by McEntire around the same time, was another early entry for the technology. Expected by many to continue leading the post-rock brigade into a new fusion with dub and electronics, Tortoise instead turned yet another corner with their third album, TNT. Adding guitarist Jeff Parker to cement their musicianship as well as their connections to Chicago's fertile jazzavant-garde scene, the band returned with a record of post-modern cool jazz, only slightly informed by the dub, Krautrock, and electronics of Millions Now Living Will Never Die. Album 1998 12 Songs. The forward-looking Chicago band tapped into the Windy City's long-standing avant-jazz scene to expand their sound even further. By the '90s, the jazz community first fostered by artists like Art Ensemble of Chicago included a whole new generation, and the presence of new Tortoise member Jeff Parker on guitar and guest cornetist Rob Mazurek marks the band's assimilation of that aesthetic. Tortoise has been around since 1994 since they released there st album. Tortoise has released a total of five albums and this was there third album. Unfortunately this is the only Tortoise album I own so I can't compare this to all of there other albums. Tortoise is an instrumental post-rock band that combines different styles into there music. They mix in electronica, vibrating effects, jazzy trumpets, and dub effects. There is no lead singer and no vocals, Tortoise is completely an instrumental band. Although Tortoise has no vocalist there music is not dull or boring. If you're a. Band Name Tortoise. Album Name TNT. Type Album. Released date 10 March 1998. Labels Thrill Jockey Records.
