Pinewood Smile is the fifth studio album released by British hard rock band The Darkness. Produced by Adrian Bushby, the album was released on 6 October 2017 and is the first album by the band to be released by Cooking Vinyl. It is also their full first album to feature Rufus Tiger Taylor on drums, after Emily Dolan Davies left the band in 2015. The album's title and more. Pinewood Smile - The Darkness. Pinewood Smile The Darkness. Hard Rock. with Pinewood Smile, the joke is taken more seriously than ever. And all thats left is the cynics view of the Darkness as some comedy-rocker combination of Russell Brand joining Tenacious D to front Steel Panther. Hell, theres a simpering power ballad called Happiness that invokes Ds own Friendship Test, whereas Solid Gold as in, shitting out takes its clueless A&R clichés from the flim Get Him to the Greek. Pinewood Smile has got more jokes than ever, and its the first time the Darkness dont evoke 1974 or 1984 so much as 2003-and theyve never sounded more dated. Their newest album, Pinewood Smile, is a bawdy buzzsaw with peacock plumage, a devastating roundhouse right from a manicured fist. Outrageous and opulent yet fiery and muscular, its the finest album in their catalog so far and unless youre a real fuddy-duddy, its likely one of the best times youll have listening to a record this year. Speaking about why music fans should care about the Darkness, Hawkins says, Because if you don't, we're f-ked History will remember us as the apathetic generation who negligently ushered in a dreadful dystopian age that may or may not come to be known as The Rise of the Arseclowns. Pinewood Smile should be all killer no filler, but late-album offerings like the vapid Happiness and the infantile no-fatties ballad Stampede of Love-Spinal Tap's Big Bottom was ludicrous and infantile, but it wasn't cruel-suck some air out of the room, making the whole thing feel a little stale, which is the last thing. Reviews of the The Darkness - Pinewood Smile (2):
I am really disappointed of the vinyl-release. To be fair, the artwork looks great, there are well designed band photos, lyrics and credits. There is also a download-code for the album and all bonus tracks. Everything is fine so far, except the tracklist: Only nine songs with a total running time of 33 minutes.

It would actually be kind of "okay" for me, if I wasn't be able comparing it to the CD-version which includes one more track, and to the deluxe version, which again includes four more songs, with an additional running time of approximately 20 minutes. So I feel a bit tricked.
Bonus tracks for deluxe versions are always fine for me, as long as the standard version is really a "full length-album", how it is actually called. In my "unaware opinion", it should be possible without any problem to put at least one more song on each side of the vinyl, so the album would have got a total running time of approximately 40 minutes and I would be fine.

This is really disappointing for me, since the songs on the album (and also the bonus tracks) are really good, a perfect mixture of all their previous albums. Rufus on drums and as additional songwriter is a true gain for the band. But I just don't get it, why they cut off so many songs from this vinyl version.
Side two clocks in just under 16 minutes. I don't get the rationale for omitting a 3-minute song???
