The Grand Maester Rostropovich has always seemed a bit mechanical in the Saint-Saens, but his recording with Carlo Maria Giulini is captured more naturally than this presentation. Heinrich Schiff is perhaps equally extroverted, but I find Du Pres joy particularly engaging. Highly recommended even at a slim 45 minutes, a great performance is still not to be missed and good liner notes to accompany. Cello Concerto In A Minor, Op. Nicht Zu Schnell-Langsam-Sehr Lebhalf.
