Album

Rock of the Westies is the tenth studio album by English musician Elton John, released in October 1975. As with Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy, Rock of the Westies debuted on the US Billboard 200 chart at No. 1, the only two albums at that time to have done so. It was also successful albeit to a lesser extent in the artist's home territory of the UK, where it reached No. 5 on the UK Albums Chart. Robert Christgau ranked it as No. 7 on his list of the best albums of 1975. Pop Classic Rock Pop-Rock. Elton John , Kiki Dee. Songs in album Rock Of The Westies 1975. In fact, one of the album's strongest suits is the wide spectrum of strong material. The ballsy no-nonsense Street Kids and the aggressive gringo rock of the ZZ Top sound-alike Grown Some Funk of Your Own contrast with the poignant power balladry of I Feel Like a Bullet In the Gun of Robert Ford or the dark and brooding tale of addiction on Feed Me. Less than four months after issuing the landmark and autobiographical Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy 1975, Elton John re-emerged with a new band and a slightly modified sound. Rock Of The Westies. Play album. Sir Elton Hercules John CBE born Reginald Kenneth Dwight, 25 March 1947 is an English singer, pianist, and composer. He has worked with lyricist Bernie Taupin as his songwriting partner since 1967 they have collaborated on more than 30 albums to date. Theres lots of energy, rocking power chords, and pounding pianos, especially on the Who-ish Grow Some Funk of Your Own and the punchy, Bo Diddley-inspired Billy Bones and the White Bird. Feed Me is a curt cautionary tale about addiction, and I Feel Like a Bullet In the Gun of Robert Ford is all slow, tender beauty. Elton and the band dance it up on the Caribbean-tinted Island Girl, the biggest hit from a set that just wont sit still. Rock of the Westies is the tenth studio album by British singer-songwriter Elton John, released on 24 October 1975. Its title is a comedic play on words aSpoonerism devised by John. He turned the phrase West of the Rockies into Rock of the Westies. Westie is also a nickname for the West Highland White Terrier. Like Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy, Rock of the Westies also debuted on the US Billboard 200 chart at No. It was less. Rock of the Westies. Elton John. Released October 24, 1975. Rock of the Westies Tracklist. Released in October 1975, Rock of the Westies debuted at Number 1, following the Number 1 debut of his previous album Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy. The title is making reference to the album having been recorded in the Rocky Mountains, at Caribou Ranch in Colorado, and is a play on the phrase west of the Rockies, a good example of Elton Johns sense of humor. This is the first Elton John album recorded after he fired his rhythm section Nigel Olsson on drums and Dee Murray on bass citing a need for a change in sound. Rock of the Westies is not Elton John 's best album of the '70s its not even the best album he released in 1975. Its not a concept album or a sprawling double-disc release, like that same year's Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy or Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. And maybe thats where its charm lies. After record sleeves featuring elaborate illustrations of the John in full superhero garb and stepping away into Oz, Rock of the Westies offers only Elton, smiling, in a baseball cap. A cover like that seems to say, Time to get back to garden-variety rock records, world
